  • Mike Oliver, a native of the Midwest, brings a taste of Chicago to downtown Montgomery after ending a long construction career + he plans to launch his new venture to offer locals a slice of home.  WSFA 12
  • New Piggly Wiggly Food For Less will open Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 a.m. at 5326 US Highway 231 in Wetumpka, with the McDaniels family taking over the former Winn-Dixie space (restoring a full-service grocery option for the community).  Elmore Autauga News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery County Emergency Management reminded residents to stay prepared for severe weather and to access weather alerts as conditions evolve. The county urges everyone to monitor systems for timely updates.  WSFA 12
  • Former U.S. Senator Doug Jones will join Capitol Journal tonight at 7:30 p.m. to discuss his bid for governor and plans to ease rising costs and stagnant wages in Montgomery—focusing on local issues affecting everyday people.  Alabama Daily News
  • The Alabama Board of Medical Examiners is accepting online certification permit applications from doctors for medical cannabis use. The application window starts today to support local practices + expand patient care.  WSFA 12
  • Alabama Commissioner of Agriculture Rick Pate announced on Friday that the USDA designated 19 counties as primary natural disaster areas due to a prolonged drought affecting crop yields and cattle feed supplies. Farmers in these and neighboring counties may apply for emergency FSA loans until Aug. 29 (covering all eligible areas).  WSFA 12

  • ADPH announced winners of the 'Share Your Smile with Alabama' photo contest for third graders on Thursday, selecting Kaydense Anthony-Johnson from Tuskegee and Caleb Patterson from Montgomery. The winners will be featured in campaigns promoting oral health during National Children’s Dental Health Month in February.  WSFA 12

  • Montgomery Catholic announced this week that Aubrey Blackwell (coach from 2015 to 2020) will return as head football coach. He plans to build on the program's strong foundation and continue its winning tradition.  WSFA 12
  • Last night, Saint James honored sophomore Kaitlin Mitchell for reaching 1,000 career points — the Trojans dominated Montgomery Academy 87-14 in a girls basketball game.  WAKA 8
