- ➤ Make-A-Wish Alabama launched its 10th annual Trailblaze Challenge on Jan. 11, inviting Montgomery families to support wish recipients through a series of local events. WSFA 12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Continuing their 2,300-mile Walk for Peace from Texas to Washington, D.C., Buddhist monks & their rescue dog passed through Alabama where nearly 1,000 people visited a United Methodist congregation and 200 gathered at a local farm for reflection. They walked to promote mindfulness and healing. AL.com
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Kelyn Ralya, with 30 years of library experience, was named permanent director of the Alabama Public Library Service in November 2025, and she will now oversee funding for over 200 libraries (supporting local librarians amid recent book challenges). AL.com
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Early morning storms on Saturday caused significant damage to homes in Marion Junction; Montgomery Emergency Management will open a warming center on Sunday and Monday night as temperatures drop below freezing. WSFA 12
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ A nationally ranked youth football team completed an undefeated season and was honored by the City Council after coach Drek Goodwyn recovered from being shot during practice, an event that united the Cardinals. Goodwyn will return to coaching in March + the team embraces the 'Do it for Drek' motto. WAKA 8
- ➤ Saint James football coach Jimmy Perry died after battling cancer, leaving behind a legacy as a Hall of Famer who led the team to its first state championship in 2022; he was 68 years old. Funeral arrangements are pending. WSFA 12
