- ➤ Girl Scouts of Southern Alabama kicked off the 2026 cookie season Thursday with drive-thru sales at ServisFirst Bank in downtown Montgomery and at its East Montgomery branch on Halcyon Park Drive, offering a full range of cookie varieties and a chance for girls to learn business skills. WSFA 12
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Hundreds of Our Little Miss Pageant contestants faced hotel room shortages when the Renaissance overbooked and moved some to another downtown hotel — prompting safety concerns as organizers work to secure accommodations for those scheduled to stay through Monday. WSFA 12
- ➤ WSFA 12 News airs a special MLK Community Celebration today at Davis Theatre in downtown Montgomery. The program will stream online at 10 a.m. and air on TV at 7 p.m. — presented by Friends of the Theatre and directed by Dr. Tommie Tonea Stewart. WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On Wednesday, Jan. 14, the Alabama Technology Network rebranded as the Alabama Training Network at a ribbon cutting held at the Alabama Community College System building in Montgomery. Officials said the new name more clearly reflects its mission to offer workforce training that supports local economic growth. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Alabama Community College System set a record in dual enrollment for 2024-25 as local students take advantage of expanded college course options. Enrollment figures mark an important milestone for future education plans. WSFA 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The City of Montgomery will open an overnight warming center throughout the coming week to help residents stay warm during below-freezing nights (specific locations and times will be announced soon). WSFA 12
- ➤ Today, Baptist Health cut the ribbon on a new primary care clinic in Pike Road — a facility designed to expand access to care in the community. WSFA 12
