  • Ashley Robinson supports Montgomery's youth and families by running Change (a non-profit offering mentoring, tutoring, and other free services) and a free clothing store, Kloset Cubbies, at Eastdale Mall; her work earned her recognition as this week's Pay It Forward honoree.  WAKA 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Erin Cox, owner of The Gentle and Classical Press, says Amazon’s AI system is listing her homeschool curriculum products without permission, which disrupts her ad tracking and data control (supporting 80,000 families). She contacted Amazon repeatedly, and the company flagged her request for review.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Prattville's Way Off Broadway Theatre is hosting several workshops for aspiring directors at its venue this week. The programs will give local talent hands-on opportunities to learn directing skills — a practical boost for the creative community.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Kappa Alpha PSI fraternity will host its 6th annual Scholarship Breakfast on January 31 in Montgomery to support local educational opportunities and honor student achievement + the event is set to bring community members together for a morning of shared tradition.  WSFA 12
  • The Autauga County School System reported an 87 on its District Report Card, its highest score ever, and held a celebration to mark the milestone. The achievement highlights improvements in local education.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency warns drivers to prepare for dangerous road conditions (including black ice) expected to form on Friday, Jan. 23 in north Alabama before moving south. Authorities advise checking vehicles, filling gas tanks, and carrying emergency supplies for safe travel.  WSFA 12
  • Representatives from the Alabama Department of Child Abuse and Neglect Prevention presented leaders a check for $11.9 million from the Children's Trust Fund during a ceremony at the State House on Jan. 20 to support efforts to prevent child maltreatment.  The Montgomery Independent

HEALTH NEWS

  • Voices for Alabama’s Children announced that its 2025 Kids Count data book is now online. The digital update lets parents, educators and advocates access updated child well-being and mental health data throughout the year, modernizing a 30-year research initiative.  WSFA 12

  • The Montgomery Biscuits held a Fan Fest at Riverwalk Stadium on Wednesday night to celebrate their new ownership and mark a fresh chapter for the team.  WSFA 12
