- ➤ A Montgomery home (belonging to a gun violence survivor) was hit by a massive tree during Sunday storms, causing power outages and debris that slowed recovery. Crews continued work on Monday as the family began planning next steps. WSFA 12
- ➤ On Jan. 26, the Montgomery Humane Society featured Hershey Kiss—a 9-month-old kitten with a unique ear—and Kanga, a 6-month-old Boxer-mix puppy shy at first but set for adoption. Interested families can visit the society to learn more. WAKA 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery Regional Airport resumed normal operations Monday morning after a bomb threat was received at 8 a.m.; officials cordoned off parts of the terminal and conducted a full sweep before clearing the facility, and flights are now departing and arriving as scheduled. WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama held its fifth annual HIRE School Robotics Tournament on Jan. 22 and 23 at the HMMA Training Center. About 350 students from local schools showcased robotics skills in challenges that emphasized STEM learning — a program that prepares them for future technical careers. Montgomery Chamber
- ➤ Troy University is expanding its nursing program in partnership with Baptist Health by launching a new LPN to RN Bridge Program to build the local nursing workforce — applications for the fall program are accepted until May 31. WAKA 8
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery city and county leaders ask residents to report storm damage from yesterday’s severe weather using the state’s online tool (reports go directly to the emergency management agency) for proper assessment; note the tool does not replace insurance claims or emergency calls. WAKA 8
