EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The state education board will vote in March on recommended social studies textbooks for the next school year. State Superintendent Eric Mackey said the delay gave board members extra time to review proposals — some expressed concerns about how well the materials reflect local values. AL.com
- ➤ A Teen Summit is set to teach high school seniors skills as part of a partnership among local churches, banks + city offices in MPS. The event will help kids make positive choices. WSFA 12
- ➤ Goldfish Swim School in Eastchase offers free play-based swim lessons this February for infants 4 to 8 months old. Enrolled babies will get lessons until they turn nine months, building water confidence and providing parents with important safety tips. WAKA 8
- ➤ Teen Summit provided high schoolers with practical lessons on HIV prevention, college planning, and financial literacy yesterday at Montgomery Public Schools — a six-year program led by local churches, banks, and city offices. WSFA 12
- ➤ After the federal National Blue Ribbon program ended abruptly last August, the State Board of Education honored five local schools with the Legislative School Performance Recognition Program on Thursday in Montgomery.
