CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama International Education and Economic Partnership and City of Montgomery are hosting the sixth annual Kite Festival to celebrate multicultural traditions on Saturday, Feb. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Blount Cultural Park, where attendees can bring their own kites for a chance to win prizes. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Higher Education Day parade will kick off at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at the Alabama State Capitol — featuring mascots, marching bands and students from 14 public universities, with a pledge signing at 11 a.m. and community lunch at 11:45 a.m. WAKA 8
- ➤ Coosada Elementary School first grade teacher Kimberly Howard was named teacher of the year for both her school and Elmore County — a recognition of her 21 years of commitment to teaching. She said that support from students and parents keeps her motivated. WSFA 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Magic Moments granted an 8-year-old cancer patient’s wish to visit Disney World this spring, fulfilling his birthday dream. The Alabama-based organization provided this heartwarming experience to support the child and his family. WSFA 12
LIFESTYLE NEWS
- ➤ The Montgomery Humane Society features Pets of the Week with Aries, a shy cat who loves to cuddle on fluffy blankets, and Luke, a friendly Terrier mix that loves toys and affection. Interested families can visit the Humane Society to adopt either pet. WAKA 8
