- ➤ Milo’s Hamburgers closed its EastChase restaurant after serving Montgomery for 10 years — the chain did not give a reason for the shutdown, per its website. WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Representatives from Hyundai Motor Manufacturing donated $13,465 to Alabama State University on Thursday, Feb. 19 at 9:00 a.m. at the campus behind Bessie Benson Hall — the funds will support the She Care Wellness Pods that provide mental-health services for female students. Montgomery Chamber
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Local legislators are considering bills that would eliminate out-of-pocket costs for prostate and breast cancer screenings by requiring full coverage for high-risk policyholders. Senate Bill 19 and House Bill 300, pending further passage, could support early detection efforts for thousands of residents. WSFA 12
- ➤ The state’s Severe Weather Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday began today at 12:01 a.m. and will run until Sunday at midnight, with tax-free purchases on flashlights, batteries, weather radios, tarps and portable generators. Gov. Ivey said — in a press release — the measure helps families prepare for unpredictable weather. Alabama Daily News

- ➤ Dentists from Troy and Montgomery teamed up with a local church to host a free dental clinic in Montgomery yesterday + offering essential dental care to local residents. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Council of Substance Abuse hosted its first Business Resource Fair Friday morning in Montgomery to raise awareness of workplace substance misuse. COSA worked with Montgomery Public Schools and veterans and plans quarterly events to share best practices. WSFA 12
- ➤ Dentists from Troy and Montgomery held a free dental clinic at a local church Friday in Montgomery. The event provided community members with essential dental care. WSFA 12
- ➤ At Wesley Gardens Assisted Living, a rare wooden CRDL instrument designed by Dutch scientists is helping memory care patients connect through its interactive play + changing sounds. The facility is planning a spring fundraiser to purchase one after its rental ends. WSFA 12
