BUSINESS NEWS

  • Eastdale Mall has new management as Bob Atchison, a long-time local resident, takes over after the last manager was laid off last week. He will lead building upgrades to attract new retail, dining and novelty tenants.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Alabama Arise Action members met at the State House to urge lawmakers to designate $14 million in next year's education budget for no-cost school breakfasts—supporting local farmers and improved student scores in reading and math.  WSFA 12
  • Alabama State University is hosting a free artificial intelligence event on Thursday, Mar. 5 at its Montgomery campus. The event will let attendees explore the latest AI developments.  WSFA 12
  • Yesterday at the State House, Alabama Arise Action members urged lawmakers to fund no-cost school breakfasts for every child in public schools (hoping to give students a healthy start).  WSFA 12

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Silicon Ranch plans a 4,500-acre solar farm in north Baldwin County to power a Meta data center in Montgomery while preserving wetlands and using sheep for land care. Approved last December, the project is slated to operate by end of 2028 (a design that boosts soil quality).  AL.com

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, Feb. 24, Rep. Terri Sewell honored Selma-born civil rights activist JoAnne Bland on the House Floor. Bland, who passed away Feb. 19 at 72, was recognized for her lifelong work for voting rights and equality.  WSFA 12
  • Gov. Kay Ivey announced $40 million for capital expenses at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery, to be released once the hospital exits bankruptcy. New leadership and local funding commitments led to the plan, with the hospital expected to restructure in the second quarter.  WAKA 8

SPORTS NEWS

  • At 13 years old, football quarterback Kole Moody earned the WSFA Fever Athlete of the Year Award Tuesday at WSFA 12 News studios + his record-setting play helped his Southside Selma team reach the AHSAA 3A Semifinals.  WSFA 12
  • WSFA 12 Sports hosted its annual Fever Athlete of the Year Party today at its studios, honoring 2025 Fever Athletes of the Week and airing the award segment (6 p.m.), while the network presented the 2nd annual Caden Tellier Leadership Award yesterday to honor a Morgan Academy quarterback.  WSFA 12
