- ➤ Ford is recalling nearly 413,000 Explorer SUVs from 2017—2019 because a rear suspension defect could lead to loss of steering control. Dealers will replace the toe links free and owners will receive recall letters on March 9. WAKA 8
- ➤ Sansepeggio’s Pizza, a Birmingham chain, opened its first franchise today on Medford Drive in Hoover and will soon add new spots in Alabaster, Pelham, and Montgomery as it aims for 30 locations nationally by 2028 while hiring for its Birmingham IT hub and testing artificial intelligence. AL.com

- ➤ The Montgomery Regional Chamber holds a press conference today at 11 a.m. to present new regional economic data and announce a major industry expansion aimed at boosting local competitiveness. WSFA 12

- ➤ Alabama’s HBCUs have built strong education and community pride since freed people pooled resources to start schools like Tuskegee and Alabama A&M — they have fostered learning for generations. They boost the local economy by creating jobs and paving the way for future careers in law, medicine and STEM. AL.com
- ➤ Montgomery Public Schools is hosting Pre-K registration at McKee Pre-K Center — 4595 Neese Drive — on Saturday, Feb. 28 from 8AM to 3PM. Parents register without pre-sign up based on last name; children must turn four by Sept. 1 and live in the district as health screenings are offered. WAKA 8
- ➤ Ronnie Doughty of Montgomery Public Schools helps students by organizing supply drives, uniform collections, and mentoring programs through his work with Tie and Doll, Inc. The teacher has pursued his calling since childhood and continues to pay it forward in the community. WAKA 8
- ➤ Advocates ask Alabama lawmakers to add $14M to the state's $10.5B education plan to close a breakfast funding gap in public schools, so every school can offer free meals to boost attendance + focus. Lawmakers will debate Gov. Kay Ivey’s proposal soon. Alabama Daily News
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Gov. Kay Ivey and a state finance board announced they will borrow up to $40M to help financially struggling Jackson Hospital in Montgomery (funds will be issued once the hospital emerges from bankruptcy). The Amendment 666 Bonding Commission approved the move to support the hospital’s capital projects. Alabama Daily News
- ➤ Gov. Ivey kicked off Buy Alabama’s Best Day last Wednesday when the event raised awareness for locally made food and supported designated charities. She joined officials and vendors such as Buffalo Rock and Blue Bell Icecream while remarks were broadcast live at 11 a.m. WSFA 12
- ➤ Officers held a procession Tuesday — honoring late Cpl. David M. Hathcock, who served more than 20 years with the Montgomery Police Department. WSFA 12
