  • The River Region will host a busy weekend from March 6-8 — featuring the Monster Truck Nitro Tour at Garrett Coliseum, Bridge Crossing Jubilee in Selma, Zoo Weekend at Montgomery Zoo, a paint and pizza fundraiser by the Elmore County Humane Society, and the Santuck Flea Market in Wetumpka.  WAKA 8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Residents in the Garden District were evacuated on Thursday when Montgomery Fire Rescue responded to a large gas leak on the 1300 block of South Hull Street (around 11:20 a.m.), and Spire Gas technicians later declared the area safe for return.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Montgomery Regional Airport now offers a new flight to Houston, giving passengers more travel options and boosting local connectivity.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ballet dancer Misty Copeland addressed Montgomery students on Wednesday at the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, sharing insights about her celebrated career in ballet.  WSFA 12

  • City leaders celebrated Montgomery for being recognized as one of Alabama's top cities for economic performance today. This acknowledgment highlights the local economy's growing momentum.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery Public Schools is hosting a heritage and resource fair on Saturday to showcase different cultures and traditions for local families - the event will offer opportunities to experience community heritage firsthand.  WSFA 12
  • Alabama State University is hosting the Montgomery .AI Summit to show how artificial intelligence is reshaping learning, work and public service. The event will offer locals practical insights into educational trends and emerging job skills.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A wreath-laying ceremony held this morning in Montgomery reminded community members about the importance of voting as organizers warned that lawmakers may try to limit that right.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • CW Montgomery will air six Savannah Bananas games this season, starting in May. The station also confirms live games at Riverwalk Stadium on March 21 & 22, with broadcasts available on Channel 22.1 and Channel 32.2 via cable, satellite, and streaming services.  WAKA 8
