- ➤ Bernard Lafayette, a civil rights leader who taught nonviolence and organized sit-ins at segregated counters, died Thursday, Mar. 5 at 85 — his friends will honor his legacy with the Martin and Coretta King International Lifetime Peace and Justice Award at a Unity Breakfast in Selma this Sunday. - ➤ Community leaders celebrated voting rights at the NAACP Bridge Crossing Gala while Ellwood Christian Academy performed Selma Again. A reenactment of Brown v. Board and reopening events at Montgomery Square and Brown Chapel AME Church are set for Saturday and Sunday at 7 p.m. WSFA 12
