- ➤ The Millbrook Area Chamber of Commerce will host SOAR Women’s Conference & Small Business Expo Tuesday to honor Women’s History Month and inspire local women and small business owners. Attendees can expect sessions that foster networking and skill-sharing within the community. WSFA 12
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Toyota is recalling over 550,000 SUVs after federal regulators found that second-row seats in 2021-2024 Highlander models may not lock properly; dealers will repair the seats for free and owners should expect notification letters next month. WAKA 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ A new career tech school, the Academy of Craft Training (ACT), was announced at the Montgomery Regional Chamber’s annual Alabama Update and will interview high school juniors and seniors from Montgomery, Autauga, Lowndes, Tallapoosa, and Elmore counties before classes begin in August, with notifications starting in April. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama House passed a $10.9 billion education budget package on Thursday morning that funds programs from pre-K through higher education and includes a 2% teacher pay raise (the highest boost allowed under state law). It will now move to the Senate for final approval. WSFA 12
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Old Cloverdale Village completed its 11,000 sqft core-and-shell redevelopment in the historic Old Cloverdale District on East Fairview Avenue. House of Alchemy and Cloverdale Creamery are set to open soon while Big Bad Breakfast will debut in late March. WSFA 12
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Athletes from Montgomery Public Schools will compete head-to-head today at Park Crossing High School in the 2026 Special Olympics, showcasing their skills in this local sports event. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Whitewater will host the 2026 ICF Canoe Slalom World Ranking Spring Races from Saturday to Sunday. About 80 racers from the U.S., Canada, and South America will compete on the Olympic standard course (local fans are invited to enjoy the competition). WAKA 8
- ➤ Autauga County’s Special Olympics golf team prepares for the Area Games this weekend, and two golfers (Samantha Brasher and Justin Egbe) have earned invitations to the USA Games in Minnesota this June. Coach Dean Ferris said the program has steadily improved since it began five years ago. WSFA 12
