COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery Parks and Recreation will host a spring break event to keep kids active and entertained in local parks. The event is set to take place soon during the break.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • River Region professionals gathered at Montgomery Regional Airport on Thursday for a networking event hosted by the Montgomery Chamber to build local business connections.  WSFA 12
  • Huey Magoo’s is now open at 2930 Carter Hill Rd. in Montgomery (operating daily from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.) and announced plans to add four restaurants to Birmingham.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Commerce Music Hall reopened its doors in downtown Montgomery on Friday, Mar. 13 with a free concert by country singer Kirk Jay (a top competitor on The Voice Season 15) as part of a grand reopening celebration. A ribbon-cutting ceremony took place from 5 to 5:30 p.m.  WAKA 8
  • World-renowned ballet dancer Misty Copeland visited Davis Theatre on Mar. 3 for a moderated conversation about her influential dance career, offering local fans insight into her journey.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The House passed outcome-based higher ed funding bill (House Bill 565) on Thursday, Mar. 12, linking $65 million in bonus funds to college performance for graduation and job placement. The measure, sponsored by Danny Garrett, provides pre-funding through the CHEER Act for public institutions and Tuskegee University.  Alabama Daily News
  • Alabama lawmakers passed House Bill 138—which lets retirees with bus driving certificates return as full-time drivers while keeping retirement benefits—to ease the school bus shortage affecting Montgomery and rural districts. Gov. Kay Ivey is expected to sign the bill soon.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery Public Schools hosted the 2026 Special Olympics today — student-athletes demonstrated school pride through determination and teamwork.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • The YMCA of Greater Montgomery will assume operations of the Montgomery Miracle League, expanding adaptive baseball for children, teens and adults with unique abilities in Montgomery. The program aims to offer a valuable sports opportunity for the community.  The Montgomery Independent
  • The 2026 ICF canoe slalom world ranking spring races will happen this weekend (March 14) at Montgomery Whitewater (featuring former and future Olympians).  WSFA 12
