- ➤ Montgomery firefighters battled a house fire near Taylor Road this morning at a home on the 6500 block of Eastwood Glen Drive where smoke and flames were seen coming from the attic and no one was inside, while the cause remains under investigation. WAKA 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Alabama Board of Education will vote in April on extending State Superintendent Eric Mackey’s contract through 2029 and raising his salary by $90,000 to $380,000—three board members have asked for more time to review the proposal. Some officials say the decision should be clear and transparent as they compare his pay to local superintendents and look for more details before a final decision is made. Alabama Daily News

- ➤ College basketball teams from Alabama are set to play in the 2025 NCAA men’s tournament after Selection Sunday revealed the bracket. Auburn Tigers earned their first No. 1 seed by finishing 28-5 and as SEC champions while Alabama State Hornets and Alabama Crimson Tide—who finished 25-8 with the top scoring offense—also secured their spots as tournament play begins on Tuesday.
