COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery’s Junior Livestock Expo Swine Show recently showcased some of the best pigs as young exhibitors demonstrated their livestock skills, drawing community members together to celebrate local agriculture.  WSFA 12
  • WSFA 12 partners with Meals-on-Wheels Montgomery to host a charity telethon on March 19 that will raise funds and awareness for homebound seniors in the area.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • The King's Canvas hosted a fundraising block party on Sunday in Montgomery that showcased art, music and community spirit. The event brought local residents together to enjoy creative displays.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery Public Schools’ coach Meryles Gilbert has spent eight years teaching PE at Southlawn Elementary and follows his father’s legacy of more than 25 years in physical education — he uses sports to build strong bonds with his students.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A bill filed in the House would allow families using CHOOSE Act funds to sue athletic associations if they deny student eligibility solely because of program participation (the measure would ease obtaining court orders for temporary sports participation while disputes continue).  Alabama Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Costco has recalled its Meatloaf with Mashed Yukon Potatoes and Glaze kit because an ingredient may be contaminated with salmonella (sell-by dates run from 3/5 to 3/16); customers can return the product for a full refund.  WSFA 12
  • Robert 'Bob' Landers, 88, with early onset dementia, was found safe in Florida after leaving his Lowndes County home Saturday morning to visit a driving range; he last contacted his family at 2 a.m. Sunday while feeling unwell and confused.  WSFA 12

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Birmingham-based firm is redeveloping 11,000 sqft in historic Cloverdale to include a wine bar & Big Bad Breakfast, which will open at the end of March. Local input helped shape a plan that preserves original interior features.  WSFA 12
