COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The City of Montgomery held Community and Family Fun Day where families enjoyed bounce houses and face painting—this event set the stage for a weekend of activities honoring the Selma to Montgomery marchers. WSFA 12
- ➤ People from across the country came to Montgomery to mark the 60th anniversary of the Selma-to-Montgomery voting rights march—an event that helped lead to the Voting Rights Act. At Carver High School on Saturday, a Family Fun Day and Stars for Freedom Rally honored the historic protest while a march reenactment from City of St. Jude Parish to the Alabama Capitol took place on Sunday. - ➤ The City of Montgomery held the Stars for Freedom rally to honor the historic Selma to Montgomery march—this event revived a tradition that celebrates our local civil rights legacy. WSFA 12
- ➤ Over 200 supporters of Alabama Arise Action gathered at the state house on March 20th — backing House Bill 386 that would lower the state's grocery tax — in a peaceful public rally. The Montgomery Independent
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On March 23rd, Alabama beat Saint Mary’s 80+66 in an NCAA Tournament game to reach the Sweet 16 for the third straight year. The Crimson Tide will face BYU in Newark in the East Region semifinals as they aim for a Final Four appearance. WAKA 8
- ➤ The Auburn Tigers beat Creighton 82-70 on Saturday night to reach the Sweet 16 while the Alabama Crimson Tide beat Saint Mary’s 80-66 on Sunday — marking the first time since 1986 that both teams advanced together. Alabama will play BYU on Thursday, March 27 while Auburn will meet Michigan on Friday, March 28. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Whitewater hosted a Pan American Championship where canoe slalom and kayak cross athletes from many countries battled strong currents on a challenging course—three Olympians competed in the event that served as the U.S. National Team selection process. The facility also offers kayaking lessons for beginners. WSFA 12
