- ➤ Civil rights leader Dr. Bernard LaFayette Jr. (85), a key figure in the historic Selma to Montgomery marches, was laid to rest Sunday at Tuskegee University Chapel. Family members and community leaders gathered to honor his legacy and urge others to continue his work in nonviolence. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Montgomery Humane Society unveiled its remodeled shelter (after decades of serving pets and people) on National Puppy Day Monday, showcasing new upgrades and puppies available for adoption. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Parks and Recreation is hosting an All Abilities Welcome Play Day on Mar. 28 to honor Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month by celebrating young people with disabilities in community parks. WSFA 12
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Caddell Construction announced executive promotions on March 19 in Montgomery when Ricky Byrd became chief operating officer, Zach Moore became president of the Commercial division, and Michael Lewis became vice president of Governmental. - ➤ The Maxwell Capital Gateway project will introduce new apartment towers, retail spaces and housing for military families in the Maxwell corridor next to I-65. - ➤ Downtown Montgomery will embrace rodeo spirit on Friday ahead of the 2026 SLE Rodeo, bringing community members together for a festive parade with live music and local vendors. WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Faulkner University and Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama announced a three-year partnership to expand the PATH program that provides simulation-based training for healthcare professionals and emergency responders across the state. HMMA will invest $200,000 annually to support ACLS, PALS, CPR/AED, EMT courses and trauma simulations. Montgomery Chamber
- ➤ Gov. Ivey reminds families to renew their CHOOSE Act application online for the 2026-27 school year, which offers up to $7,000 for tuition and tutoring. The deadline is midnight Tuesday, March 31. WSFA 12

- ➤ Residents from District 2 met with city leaders at a town hall today to voice neighborhood concerns. The event offered a chance to directly discuss community issues with local decision-makers. WSFA 12
