COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Main Street Montgomery held its second annual 'Pints & Plans' town hall yesterday in downtown to review last year's progress and share plans for 2026, including a proposal to lift the alcohol ordinance and add more security. Local business and property owners, realtors, and residents attended.  WAKA 8
  • The City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department will host the Daddy and Daughter Dance: Denim and Diamonds on Saturday, April 11, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Crump Senior Center (1751 Congressman Dickinson Drive), inviting girls ages 6–18 and their father figures for dancing, surprises and refreshments.  Montgomery Chamber

  • About $2.5 million in federal COVID relief funds remain available for local businesses; officials say eligible companies should review guidelines+submit applications soon.  WSFA 12

  • Pike Road Schools Superintendent Dr. Keith Lankford will step down on June 30 to become assistant superintendent focused on managing capital projects before retiring on Jan. 1, 2027. His planned transition aims to ensure a smooth leadership change for the district.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kay Ivey has ordered flags statewide to fly at half-staff to honor three U.S. service members killed in a March 12 refueling aircraft crash in Iraq. The flags will remain half-staff until sunset on March 30 when a funeral service for Maj. John Klinner is expected.  WSFA 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Mar. 19, a Meals on Wheels telethon raised over $46,000 in donations to deliver meals to seniors in Montgomery (organizers said the event also built vital community connections).  WSFA 12
  • Local VA nurses Chris Wieser + Scott Boehm were on their lunch break at a restaurant when they spotted a diner showing stroke symptoms and quickly provided aid until emergency services arrived.  WSFA 12

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • A Montgomery mother said a collapsing ceiling in her apartment was caused by long-neglected conditions at Greenbriar Apartments, and she claims management has refused to make repairs. The incident casts doubt on the complex’s routine upkeep.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Stanhope Elmore High School girls’ soccer team beat Prattville 1-0 at 17 Springs Stadium on Thursday, Mar. 19 for the first win against their rival team. The goal by 8th grader Aryanna Ivey helped the Mustangs maintain control despite Prattville’s strong defense.  Elmore Autauga News
  • Steer wrestler Will Lummus explained how rodeo differs from other professional sports at the returning SLE Rodeo in Montgomery. Local fans can look forward to a live showcase of traditional rodeo action.  WSFA 12
