ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • An 18-wheeler overturned along Interstate 85 near Exit 3 to Ann Street in Montgomery Tuesday morning at about 8:50 a.m.—killing one person and involving no other vehicles, police confirmed.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Troy University announced that local full-time undergraduate students have been named to the Chancellor's List for Term 3 of the academic year. Those students earned a 4.0 GPA while taking at least 12 semester hours, and the list includes students from Montgomery, Wetumpka, Deatsville and Prattville.  Elmore Autauga News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Montgomery County District Attorney and Alabama State University announced the Central Alabama Shared DNA Technology Project— a new partnership to improve DNA testing and fight crime in our community.  WSFA 12
  • House Minority Leader Anthony Daniels filed a bill to permanently extend the overtime pay tax cut, gathering 33 bipartisan cosponsors while some lawmakers worry the change will cost too much money—critics point to a budget gap created by previous tax cuts. The proposal, originally begun in 2023, now moves to the Senate for further review.  Alabama Daily News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jackson Hospital & Clinic is relaunching its Walk with a Doc program at the new Montgomery Whitewater location—starting on Friday March 28 at 2:00 p.m.—as local residents join doctors to ask health questions while walking.  Montgomery Chamber
  • Medicaid advocates in Alabama held a virtual town hall on Tuesday to warn that proposed cuts—following a House budget vote that set the stage for nearly $900 billion in cuts over the next decade—could harm more than 1,000,000 residents who depend on the program. They stressed that many neighbors, including the elderly, children and people with disabilities, face a loss of needed support as the state does not expand Medicaid.  WSFA 12
