- ➤ Central Alabama CrimeStoppers is offering a $5,000 reward to help solve the 2023 murder of William Coachman, who was shot during an argument at a hotel on 5175 Carmichael Road on June 22 at about 3:09 PM — investigators urge anyone with information to contact CrimeStoppers. WAKA 8

- ➤ Yesterday at 1 p.m., the Montgomery Interpretive Center hosted a Women’s History Month event called “Stories of Strength and Resilience” to honor the 60th anniversary of the Selma to Montgomery March, where sisters Janet Howard‐Moore and Margaret Howard recounted their experiences from the Civil Rights Movement in Perry County—Janet recalled being injured on Bloody Sunday. The event, held on Alabama State University’s campus, celebrated a march that led Congress to pass the Voting Rights Act. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City officials have updated the open data portal after its software had not been upgraded for five years—new tools such as a 911 call map and story map were added. The upgrade finished in 28 days instead of the planned 90, and the portal now shows crime reports, 911 data, census info, and city contacts. WSFA 12
- ➤ A multi-year effort led by Rep. Neil Rafferty to remove the state sales tax on baby care, feminine hygiene and maternity products passed the House unanimously and will be reviewed by a Senate committee next week—allowing local governments to lower their own taxes on these items. Lawmakers from both parties support the measure for its help to families—although its cost is expected to be about $10.5 million annually from the state Education Trust Fund. Alabama Daily News
