A Montgomery man was arrested by U.S. Marshals for the March 10 robbery and assault of businessman Jim Massey III at his cleaners on South Street — he made his first court appearance Friday afternoon.
A Montgomery man, Zedekiah Sykes (58), was arrested on Wednesday for his role in the brutal robbery and assault of dry-cleaning owner Jim Massey at his business on March 10 and now faces charges of armed robbery, brandishing a firearm and carjacking (a conviction could lead to a life sentence).
Police arrested a 23-year-old and two teen males after a string of robberies in Montgomery on March 26th and March 27th — the crimes occurred at a hotel and on a street — and they face charges for robbery in the first degree and for firing a gun into an empty car, with records showing that the 23-year-old and one teen confessed while the other did not speak.

Montgomery Public Schools said children will continue to get free and reduced meals under the National School Lunch Program next school year — the program will still help students have school meals.
Valiant Cross Academy plans to open a new elementary school campus in downtown Montgomery this fall at the old Pizitz building near the fountain at the bottom of Dexter Avenue.
The school will offer Kindergarten through second grade and add one grade each year until it becomes a (K-5) school with around 30 students per grade, building on its current K-1 program at 301 Dexter Avenue.
On Friday, hundreds of eighth graders attended Camp IT at ASU’s campus, where Montgomery Chamber’s TechMGM partnered with Meta + local organizations including the Air Force, Ed Farm + COLLAB to expose students to IT career paths such as AI, app development, augmented reality and robotics.

The Equal Justice Initiative will hold a soft opening for the new Elevation Hotel in a few weeks while additional hotels with 300 extra rooms are under construction on Perry Street.
