COMMUNITY NEWS

  • CenterPoint Church in Prattville hosted its annual Easter Fest on Sunday, drawing over 1,000 locals who enjoyed egg hunts, rock-climbing, a petting zoo, and pony rides. Local vendors provided snow cones & ice cream.  WAKA 8

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Sunday, Mar. 29, students from River Region schools attended the LINC Up Together Youth Seminar in downtown Montgomery to network and explore career opportunities. Juniors and seniors met professionals and shared ideas about planning their future education.  WAKA 8

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Alabama Forestry Commission warns that conditions of drought, low humidity, and high winds keep the state under a fire danger advisory as small sparks can quickly turn into wildfires; officials urge residents to follow safety guidelines when burning debris or doing outdoor work (including securing proper permits) to reduce risk.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers are considering a bill that would allow K-12 employees to directly donate sick leave to colleagues for any reason beyond catastrophic illness starting with the 2027-28 school year in Alabama. The proposal leaves community college sick leave banks unchanged as discussions continue.  Alabama Daily News

SPORTS NEWS

  • Alabama State University men’s basketball coach Tony Madlock announced his resignation after four years with the Hornets. The school has begun a national search for his replacement following a season that saw a SWAC Tournament win and an NCAA Tournament appearance.  WAKA 8
