- ➤ Mayor Reed said overall crime in Montgomery dropped nearly 16% in the first three months—violent crime fell nearly 25% and non-fatal shootings dropped over 27%—as local law enforcement and community partners made progress, though he said more work remains to ensure safe neighborhoods. WSFA 12
- ➤ The upcoming 2026 lieutenant governor race in Alabama is drawing strong interest as the seat opens with Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth term-limited—Secretary of State Wes Allen and Opelika pastor Dean Odle have already announced their campaigns. Other potential candidates such as Agriculture Commissioner Rick Pate and former lawmaker John Merrill are weighing their options as candidates can begin raising funds in May. AL.com
- ➤ The Alabama Department of Public Health lost over $214 million in federal funding—$188.4 million for COVID-19 and nearly $11 million and $15 million for other health programs—when the grants were canceled last Monday.
