COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Heart of Alabama Food Bank began its search for a permanent CEO after Michael Coleman and Jo Ann Johnson left the nonprofit — interim CEO John H. Lucas, Jr. has taken over operations — while the board starts an executive search to keep serving its 35-county region.  WAKA 8
  • The Montgomery Sheriff’s Department will host its annual Camp-N-Tell for kids from July 27 to 31 at YMCA Camp Chandler, where local children will enjoy a week of guided activities.  WSFA 12
  • The YMCA of Greater Montgomery is hosting an Active Older Adult Auction (a fundraiser for senior programs) to raise funds for local community services. The event supports efforts to help older adults stay engaged.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Big Bad Breakfast, a new breakfast and brunch spot in Old Cloverdale (offering a menu of classic and creative dishes), is now open to serve local residents.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Huntingdon College announced its new pre-professional government major to prepare students for careers in law + public service + international relations. Students will be able to declare the major and begin coursework in Fall 2026 near the state capitol.  Montgomery Chamber
  • The Prattville High School marching band has been chosen to perform in the 250th Salute to Independence Parade in Philadelphia, showcasing their talent and pride for the community.  WSFA 12
  • Trenholm State Community College will celebrate its 60th anniversary with a scholarship gala on Saturday, Apr. 18 at The Alley Station in downtown. The event brings alumni, community leaders, and donors together for dining, live performances and special recognition — marking a milestone in the college’s future.  WAKA 8

  • Regions Bank launched new financial tools today to help residents boost their confidence during Financial Literacy Month. The bank offers resources designed to guide customers in reaching their goals.  WSFA 12
