COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Pike Road Lions Club will host its 14th Annual Community Yard Sale Fundraiser on Saturday, Apr. 11 in Pike Road. Families are invited to browse bargains and enjoy refreshments at the community event.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery Whitewater is hosting Run Paddle Run and Lil Tri adventure races at 9 a.m. before its All Forward Raft Race on Saturday, Apr. 25, and holding a job fair on Friday, Apr. 10 and Saturday for raft guides, land guides and guest services + more.  WAKA 8
  • Southside Church of Christ hosted a community resource fair on Apr. 2 (6:00 p.m.) to help families facing food insecurity by connecting them with local support services.  WSFA 12
  • At Dalraida Church of Christ, women are sewing teddy bears for hospitalized children (the project began recently) to offer warmth during recovery. The program continues to receive strong local support.  WSFA 12
  • Members of St. Peter's Catholic Church held its annual Way of the Cross event on Good Friday, marching through downtown Montgomery to mark the day with prayer. The procession highlighted the deep faith and unity of the community.  WSFA 12
  • On Friday, Apr. 3, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and the Easter Bunny visited children at Jackson Hospital and Baptist Medical Center East, giving away stuffed animals and taking photos. Today, the sheriff’s office will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at AUM at 2 p.m.  WAKA 8

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A sinkhole opened Thursday afternoon in a Montgomery neighborhood near Woodley Road, and local crews are set to evaluate its impact.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last Friday, Bryan Jewelry hosted a kitchen event where WSFA's General Manager Mark Bunting cooked brown sugar chicken to share local culinary flair. The session brought the community together and showcased creative cooking in a unique setting.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Ivey awarded a statewide job training program a $75,000 grant Friday. The grant supports training at J.F. Ingram State Technical College (offering 19 study areas such as automotive mechanics and welding) to help re-entering workers build skills for employment.  WSFA 12
  • With Tax Day nearly here on April 15, experts warn that refunds may take 12 to 16 weeks for those relying on paper checks—double the usual time, especially for seniors and rural residents with limited online access. Taxpayers are advised to gather all documents or file an extension to avoid penalties.  WSFA 12
