  • The Alabama Kidney Foundation invites community members to join its Annual Montgomery Kidney Walk & Celebration on May 2 in Montgomery to share hope and support kidney health efforts.  WSFA 12
  • Desmond Wingard — WSFA’s late news director — was honored at a luncheon hosted by the Alabama Rural Electric Association of Cooperatives on Apr. 8 in Montgomery.  WSFA 12
  • The Capital City Master Gardener Association will hold its 2026 Annual Plant Sale Saturday, Apr. 11 from 8:00 a.m. to noon outside Frazer Church. Local gardeners will offer plants and share advice at the event.  WAKA 8
  • The Downtown YMCA will host Burgers, Brew, & Blues on April 18 to raise funds with food, drinks, and live music for its annual campaign at the Downtown Branch.  WSFA 12
  • Victims of Crime and Leniency (VOCAL) will hold its annual State Candlelight Vigil on April 26 to honor victims with a community gathering in Montgomery.  WSFA 12

  • ServisFirst Bank Montgomery added John Mazyck and Bryant Wood to its advisory board in February 2026. Their decades of leadership experience will help the bank expand in Central Alabama & strengthen local business ties.  Montgomery Chamber

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts hosts FLIMP Festival this Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the John and Joyce Caddell Sculpture Garden, where families can enjoy art activities, music, and food trucks free to attend.  WAKA 8
  • Alabama State University Department of Theatre & Dance will debut 'The Power We Carry' this week on campus, offering a fresh look at the department’s creative work.  WSFA 12

  • The Rosa Parks Museum is hosting the Architects of Change Summer Day Camp (an educational program for children to learn and have fun) this summer.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery city council unveiled a proposed new city flag design on Tuesday, Apr. 7 at City Hall as leaders explained the design reflects our shared heritage and will guide upcoming updates to our symbols.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery residents face long waits for Section 8 housing vouchers as property management founder Phil James reports that the process can take over a year (sometimes nearly two) due to lengthy documentation and landlord challenges.  WSFA 12

  • Ron Ingram retires from the AHSAA after 18 years and remains on the job until his replacement is found, planning to watch high school sports and write a novel about his late brother (a project inspired by personal loss).  WSFA 12
