- ➤ Montgomery attorney Julian McPhillips died on Saturday after a long battle with illness at age 78. He was a founding partner of McPhillips Shinbaum LLP and worked on landmark civil rights cases—he is survived by his wife and three children. WSFA 12
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said a 3-year-old was injured in an accidental shooting Saturday night near Vista Del Verde Drive in Hope Hull and is in critical condition at Children’s Hospital in Birmingham while authorities investigate the self-inflicted incident. WSFA 12

- ➤ Montgomery police investigated the death of an adult man who was shot on the 1500 block of Hale Street around 8:49 p.m. on Friday—he was taken to a local hospital and later died from his injuries. WAKA 8
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ A historical marker honoring Dr. Percy Julian was unveiled Saturday morning near the intersection of South Holt Street & Bullock Street in Montgomery where he once lived. The marker highlights his achievements as a pioneering chemist who overcame segregation to help develop mass-produced medicine. WSFA 12

- ➤ An Alabama woman from Gadsden had her pig kidney removed on April 4 after 130 days when her body began rejecting it and she is now back on dialysis. Doctors say her case offers important insights for future animal-to-human transplants (as researchers study her recovery). WSFA 12

- ➤ Montgomery hosted the fifth annual Open Wheelchair Tennis tournament at Lagoon Park where more than 30 athletes from eight states competed to raise their world rankings and win a championship. - ➤ John Alford and Jackson Brown made history for Montgomery Academy by earning 100 doubles wins and posting an 18-1 record this season.
