COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ On April 14, Montgomery Humane Society named Pets of the Week by featuring Nectar—a shy 4-month-old kitten with apricot fur who needs a security blanket—and Nana, a 2-year-old Terrier mix dog missing one eye who loves to play with children. Both pets are available for adoption at the Humane Society. WAKA 8
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Travis Jackson, a Montgomery business owner known for his Rich Life Barbershop and clothing store in Eastdale Mall, was shot Friday night and died over the weekend in Newtown—investigators are still looking into his death. WSFA 12
- ➤ An Autauga County court convicted Kaden Tyree Provo on human trafficking and child sexual abuse charges after he traveled on April 10 to meet a 15-year-old girl for sex following phone conversations and offering her $40 for sexual favors; he is held in jail. WSFA 12
- ➤ A judge ruled that a lawsuit by eight families accusing state officials of illegally letting a local university study organs from deceased inmates without consent can move forward (UAB is involved). The families say that officials hid the practice and a new hearing will occur on May 6 (the legal process continues). Alabama Daily News

- ➤ Montgomery's record-breaking wheelchair tennis tournament drew 38 athletes to Lagoon Park this weekend and featured singles, doubles, and juniors divisions. Organized by Dream Court and its volunteers, the event will lead to a Unified Doubles Tournament on May 3 (pairing athletes with disabilities with traditional players). WAKA 8
