On April 19th, Montgomery celebrated the 49th anniversary of its Moon Tree—planted in 1976 using seeds that traveled aboard Apollo 14—near the Capitol.

An April 16 murder near West South Boulevard left four children (ages 8 to 14) without their mother as their father is in jail, and the children now stay in a hotel with their grandparents while the family seeks a home to prevent foster care.

Starting this fall, Alabama high schools will offer a workforce diploma that lets students take three career technical education courses instead of two math and two science classes, giving them a path to learn skills for immediate jobs.

Schools will use counselors to advise students on the best option + help them plan for college if desired.
