  • Four Star Freightliner announced on Monday, Apr. 20 that four students with family ties to team members were selected for the Zack Sizemore Memorial Scholarship in honor of a late colleague who passed away in 2016—continuing a community tradition since 2017.  Montgomery Chamber

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery Fire and Rescue graduated its first Citizens Academy class Monday as residents learned hands-on techniques in fire prevention and emergency response. The department plans to expand the program soon (to boost local trust in its services).  WSFA 12
  • Technology and defense leaders will gather for an expert panel discussion and reception at Ravello Ristorante on Wednesday, Apr. 22 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The private event, hosted by the Montgomery Regional Chamber, will focus on emerging tech impacting future warfare & national security.  Montgomery Chamber

  • Alabama’s SUN Bucks program gives eligible school-age children $120 in grocery benefits to help replace school meals lost during summer break; families on SNAP or TANF (automatically enrolled) can register now.  WSFA 12
  • National Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, Apr. 25 and the Medical Association of the State of Alabama urges residents to safely dispose of expired prescription drugs at designated drop-off sites statewide, including the local YMCA at 7150 Halcyon Park Dr.  WSFA 12
  • Remote Area Medical Volunteer Corp will host its third annual free medical clinic this weekend — from Saturday, Apr. 25 to Sunday, Apr. 26 — to serve community members without access to healthcare.  WSFA 12
  • Jackson Hospital is restructuring its workforce following bankruptcy + a spokesperson confirmed the changes started Monday, Apr. 20 in Montgomery.  WSFA 12
