- ➤ Former athlete Courtney Green supports Montgomery teens through basketball camps, after-school programs, and community drives. She plans to use $333 to buy uniforms and supplies to help them advance (paying it forward with a personal mission to uplift young women). WAKA 8
- ➤ Montgomery Whitewater Foundation is hosting a press conference today at 1 p.m. to announce a $50,000 grant from the Mid-South RC&D Council that will support its Swift Water Rescue training program and live on‑water demonstration. WSFA 12 News will stream the event online. WSFA 12

- ➤ Montgomery Zoo hosted its Earth Day safari on Wednesday and continues the celebration today with wildlife viewing and guided exhibits at the zoo (visitors of all ages are welcome). WSFA 12
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tuskegee University is hosting its commencement on May 9 at the Chappie James Arena — NBA legend Magic Johnson will address more than 300 graduates with insights on business and life. Tickets are required, the university announced. WSFA 12
- ➤ Alabama State University juniors showcased their Kineo pain-management app concept at Apple’s campus in Austin during the Propel pitch competition — they plan to develop the tool further to help patients adjust exercise routines based on daily health data. WSFA 12
- ➤ Gov. Ivey and the Alabama Department of Early Childhood Education announced Wednesday that Alabama’s First Class Pre-K program was recognized nationally for meeting all 10 quality benchmarks for 20 consecutive years. It now serves over 24,000 children in more than 1,500 classrooms statewide. WSFA 12
- ➤ Today at Floyd Middle School, DAS donated funds to support the band program by covering costs for instrument reeds, repairs, and sheet music, and students performed during the visit. The donation underscores a strong community commitment to enhancing education. Montgomery Chamber
- ➤ Montgomery Public Schools will host a career fair on Wednesday, Apr. 29 at the Multiplex at Cramton Bowl from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will feature on-the-spot interviews and an onsite kiosk for roles such as teachers + nurses + aides + bus drivers. WAKA 8

- ➤ The Alabama Emergency Management Agency announced Wednesday a partnership with Climavision to fill radar gaps and give local emergency managers access to data from previously unmonitored areas. The new system will improve severe weather monitoring throughout the state. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Whitewater has received a $50,000 grant from the Mid-South RC&D Council to offer swiftwater rescue training at its facility. The training phase, announced Wednesday, will prepare first responders + river guides for dangerous water situations amid recent regional flooding. WAKA 8
- ➤ Captain Randy Pollard of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office joined WSFA to share practical safety tips with local families, advising them to secure their homes and review emergency procedures. WSFA 12
