  • The Heart of Alabama Food Bank is hosting the Budget Bites Battle, a cooking competition where teams try to feed four people for $20 from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 9, to raise funds and awareness for families facing food insecurity.  WAKA 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Alabama-based TruBridge will be acquired by Inventurus Knowledge Solutions in a $565 million deal expected to close in the third quarter. Shareholders will receive $26.25 per share and the combined company will use AI to support rural hospitals.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Emmett Till traveling exhibit opened at the Civil Rights Memorial Center in downtown Montgomery on April 28 and will run until Aug. 14, showcasing key moments in the legendary civil rights story.  WSFA 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices continue to rise in Alabama, with the state average for regular unleaded now at $3.80 per gallon and Montgomery drivers paying $3.85 after last year's lower rates. Diesel prices have also increased, averaging $5.20 statewide amid steady climbs over the past year.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students interested in aviation and construction can apply for Building Futures scholarships (50 awards of $2,000 each) for community college students; applications open May 4 and are due by June 12.  Alabama Daily News

  • Alabama high school track teams competed over the weekend in sectionals for Classes 1A-4A, with wins by Montgomery Academy and local schools at venues such as Covington County Schools Track and Northridge High (action spanned events from discus to hurdles).
