COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 13th annual Pike Road Crawfish Boil will take place Saturday — local residents can enjoy crawfish and support a good cause. The event promises a fun weekend opportunity for the community.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested and charged with attempted murder after trying to run over a Montgomery police officer (court documents state this) and he remains in custody (pending further inquiry).  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, Gov. Kay Ivey received the record $12.2B Education Trust Fund budget package that lawmakers approved on Tuesday. The package includes an extra $80M for a new school choice program and a funding formula – targeting more funds for students facing challenges – while adding benefits like paid parental leave though teacher raises were not included.  Alabama Daily News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Alabama lawmakers passed a $3.7 billion General Fund budget after working late into the night Tuesday—this budget will set the spending framework for state programs.  WSFA 12
  • The Alabama Department of Transportation is investing $7.6 million to improve roads and bridges under the Rebuild Alabama Act+ the funding is the first round of grants that will set aside at least $10 million annually from gas tax revenue for local projects including work in Lamar and Cullman.  WSFA 12

HEALTH NEWS

  • Jackson Hospital launched its 'Stronger Together!' initiative earlier this month to strengthen ties with the River Region community and engage local businesses. It also resumed its 'Walk With A Doc' program—letting residents get health advice from doctors on the fourth Friday of each month—and introduced 'Jackson’s 2025 Community Health Needs Assessment' to identify local health priorities for future services.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Johnnie Carr Middle School's baseball team won the championship in a close game that brought pride to the school—its win marks a key achievement for the season. The team excited local fans in Montgomery with its strong performance.  WSFA 12
