  • The Central Alabama Aging Consortium is holding its annual Mayfest celebration at Cramton Bowl for senior citizens from Autauga, Elmore & Montgomery counties. Details on event timing have not been provided.  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hero Diner, known for its unique French brioche-style doughnuts and creative toppings, has closed all its Alabama locations amid financial and legal troubles for Pihakis Restaurant Group. The Montgomery site joined other closures in ending a decade-long journey, leaving local fans with fond memories.  AL.com

CULTURE NEWS

  • Last Friday, Montgomery hosted its annual Riverbend Bourbon & Brew Fest at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex. Residents gathered to enjoy local brews and bourbon at this yearly celebration.  WSFA 12
  • Gray Media and WSFA 12 News launched the Star-Spangled Sing-Off contest on Friday, May 1 to celebrate America’s 250th birthday, inviting locals to send in their best a cappella renditions of the National Anthem for a chance to win an all-expenses-paid trip to Nashville to film a performance for Gray Media stations.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Art Splash is underway at Tom and Amy Methvin's home on Hull Street, featuring art auctions, live painting, and music to raise scholarship funds for Montgomery Christian School. Art pieces are available for bidding until May 4.  WAKA 8
  • Montgomery Public Schools launched the Cyber Intelligence Academy, a magnet program that teaches students about cyber intelligence in local schools.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery Whitewater has replaced its executive director as Jason Wilson, who served nearly a year, is no longer in charge following a board review of operations. The park expects water activities to resume on June 1 once a new executive leadership team is in place.  WAKA 8
  • State and local leaders and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency gathered at the State Capitol Friday for the annual memorial ceremony honoring officers, including Irondale PD Lt. Mark Meadows, Senior Conservation Enforcement Officer Shawn Nixon, and FBI Special Agent Todd Spiker — officials urged keeping fallen officers’ families in thoughts.  WSFA 12
