BUSINESS NEWS

  • Montgomery Whitewater closed its man-made rapids for a month beginning April 24 to maintain water quality and guest experience. The board fired executive director Jason Wilson, who was appointed in June 2025, less than a week after the closure announcement.  AL.com

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Montgomery Public Schools unveiled a new adaptive playground at Chisholm Elementary School yesterday, funded by a $20,000 grant from Blue Cross Blue Shield (ensuring safe, inclusive play for every student).  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Jay Mitchell, a GOP candidate for attorney general, demanded his opponent retract a campaign ad after it aired statewide today. He sent a cease and desist letter contesting claims linking him to foreign ties and noting the ad cost $410,933 ahead of the May 19 primary.  AL.com

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Alabama Kidney Foundation hosted its annual Kidney Walk + Celebration to support dialysis patients while marking the milestone of $200K raised so far.  WSFA 12
  • The Wellness Coalition hosted a free health fair in Montgomery — designed to boost access to health services — that provided essential wellness support to local residents.  WSFA 12

SPORTS NEWS

  • Saturday, St. Luke’s Episcopal beat Westminster-Oak Mountain by a score of 4 to 1 in high school soccer, with Senior Kiley Hawarah scoring two goals to clinch a state semifinal spot against Orange Beach next week — raising her career total to 232 goals.  AL.com
  • Bob Jones upset top-ranked Vestavia Hills with a 6-1 win in the first round of AHSAA Class 7A baseball playoffs on Thursday, April 30 at Vestavia Hills. The team will face No. 9 Thompson next.  AL.com
  • After Saturday's rainy play, Alabama high school baseball playoffs are nearly over as most series are decided and three matchups involving Maplesville at Florala, McGill-Toolen at Northridge and Fairhope at Central-Phenix City are set to finish on Monday with final games at 4:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 4 p.m.  AL.com
