- ➤ Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama announced leadership changes on May 2nd — Chris Susock moved to Chief Manufacturing Officer for Hyundai Motor North America while senior vice president Mark Rader was promoted to President and CEO to oversee operations in Montgomery. Montgomery Chamber
- ➤ Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama celebrated its 20th anniversary with a Team Member Appreciation Day on May 3 at its Montgomery plant — where team members, families and guests enjoyed carnival rides, plant tours and live music by Jermaine Dupri and Friends — in a festive celebration. The plant, which built 6.27 million vehicles since 2005 and employs about 4,200 people, will officially mark its production milestone on May 20. Montgomery Chamber
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Karla Barclay was killed in a hit-and-run on Eastern Boulevard — she was struck by drag racers while crossing with her boyfriend — and her sister Kandy Raspberry is urging for safer crosswalks as police search for the driver who fled. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery police announced Monday that 27-year-old Kourtney Tyrone Brisker was arrested on May 1 and charged with three counts of capital murder in connection to the Feb. 11 killing of 3-year-old Ja’Seyon Green on North Decatur Street—adding to prior charges against another suspect. AL.com

- ➤ Montgomery Public Schools will host Grammy Award winner Sheila E with student performers at Riverfront Amphitheater on Saturday, May 10 from 3-6 p.m. to boost school attendance and family engagement (parents must update contact info to receive four free tickets per student). WAKA 8
- ➤ Ms. Vivian Cunningham, 82, received her master's degree from Samford today—marking a milestone in her lifelong pursuit of education. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Governor Ivey signed Senate Bill 119 on Monday to fight inner city gun violence by increasing penalties for gun crimes and expanding Aniah’s Law—most parts will take effect October 1, while one amendment becomes active when its constitutional change is ratified. WAKA 8
- ➤ Governor Ivey has signed more than half of her Safe Alabama public safety package while three bills are still pending, including House Bill 202 — a controversial police immunity measure — in the final days of the session. Lawmakers approved $3 million in funding for the Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit and expect to address the remaining bills soon. Alabama Daily News
