- ➤ City of Montgomery and Essence Magazine have partnered to present A Fine & Dandy Affair, a cultural event scheduled for May 16-17 that will bring the community together. WSFA 12
- ➤ Sip-N-Cycle is hosting a special Moms and Mimosas pedal cruise for Mother's Day, offering a BYOB & BYOF celebration for moms to enjoy a fun ride on the water. The event will provide a unique way to mark the holiday. WSFA 12
- ➤ Jack's Family Restaurants (originating in Homewood) is selling heart-shaped biscuits in honor of Mother’s Day from Friday, May 8 through Sunday, May 10 at all its locations and online. Customers can also order for delivery to celebrate mom. AL.com

- ➤ Pike Road Schools named Dr. Jason Goodwin as its new superintendent; he will start on July 1. Goodwin (deputy superintendent since 2024) brings experience from Russellville City Schools. WAKA 8

- ➤ A poll of 500 likely GOP primary voters shows candidate Barry Moore leads with 23% in the Senate race as 40% remain undecided ahead of the May 19 election. The survey reveals strong geographic divides with support varying in Montgomery areas and other key regions. WSFA 12
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ State health officials confirmed on May 6 that a raccoon in Auburn and a fox from the woods in Tallassee tested positive for rabies, and they urged pet owners to keep animals vaccinated. The fox attacked a person and the victim received medical treatment. WAKA 8
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ After area play ended Tuesday, AHSAA set regional softball tournament pairings for 208 teams who will begin playing Monday at four sites—Florence, Albertville, Montgomery and Gulf Shores—with winners advancing to the state championship in Oxford May 18—22. AL.com
