- ➤ The Central Alabama Community Foundation gave out $184,652 in grants on May 6 at That’s My Child on Lower Wetumpka Road to nonprofits that help people in the River Region. The awards help pay for food, family support and health care—boosting local programs that meet important needs. Elmore Autauga News
- ➤ Jim Massey's Cleaners, a well-known local dry cleaner, is hosting an unclaimed clothing sale today at the old Family Dollar building (1162 S. Decatur Street) where shirts, pants, jeans, sweaters, and skirts will be $5 each, dresses $10, and new prom dresses $25 each. The sale runs today from 3:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., continues Friday until 7:30 p.m., and runs Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m.—all proceeds will benefit CrimeStoppers to fund local crime prevention and public safety initiatives. - ➤ The ribbon was cut at Sheridan Heights Community Center after three million dollars in renovations delivered a resurfaced pool, new gym floor, updated table tennis setup and an e-gaming room—marking a fresh start for the facility. - ➤ Big Bad Breakfast, a made-from-scratch breakfast concept by chef John Currence, will open its newest Birmingham metro location in Vestavia Hills next week and will serve as the first tenant in Montgomery's upcoming Old Cloverdale Village redevelopment project in the historic Old Cloverdale District. Local partners including FiveStone Group, Bayer Ventures and D&A Companies will lead improvements as the project prepares to open later this year. AL.com

- ➤ Eight Alabamians—six from Montgomery—were sentenced for a multi-state wire, bank and mail fraud scheme that stole checks and mail between 2022 and 2024, with Montgomery man Hunter Hudson, Jr. receiving 92 months in prison and heavy fines. WSFA 12

- ➤ Today, the Alabama Public Library Service board in Montgomery will hold a meeting where 37 speakers address Fairhope Public Library’s suspended state funding and disputed book placement policies amid growing controversy over what qualifies as sexually explicit content. Board chair John Wahl said each speaker gets two-to-three minutes—while local officials and groups remain divided over who should decide library content. AL.com
- ➤ On Tuesday, the Legislature approved bills that will cut the grocery tax to 2% on most food items if signed by Gov Ivey and remove the 4% sales tax on baby care, feminine hygiene, and maternity products. They also set up a donation credit program for rural hospitals that offers up to $750,000 in the first year+ requires a 10% local match, measures expected to save residents about $122 million and $14 million a year.
