  • On May 8th, 2025, members of First Baptist Church in Prattville and local volunteers gathered outside the Department of Human Resources office and walked to the probate judge’s office to pray for foster and adoptive children—organizers stressed the need and urged those interested to attend licensing training classes with Alabama Baptist Children’s Home.  WAKA 8

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Birmingham tailor Robert Hill is gaining national attention after Vogue featured his custom clothing work—he started tailoring in 1983 after learning his craft at G.W. Carver High in Montgomery. The 83-year-old continues to dress notable clients and plans to train a young apprentice to carry on his work.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • CrimeStoppers offered a reward for information on a deadly shooting that occurred on May 1 in Montgomery—police hope that tips will help solve the case.  WSFA 12
  • Limestone County officials said a college football player (22-year-old William D. Hardrick of Austin Peay) died Tuesday night when his car left I-65 and flipped near Piney Chapel Road, and John McAdams was charged with murder, DUI and leaving the scene after testing 0.09% for alcohol.  WSFA 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Small Business Week, hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration, honors small business owners who employ fewer than 500 workers and create the most new jobs. The Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce held Business After Hours on May 8—uniting local professionals at Vivian O’nay on Wetumpka Highway.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Federal judges ruled Thursday that Alabama weakened Black voters when it drew its 2023 congressional map and ordered the state to use the court-approved plan — the one that helped elect its second Black congressman. The decision follows earlier rulings and may prompt further changes to district lines.  Alabama Daily News
  • Alabama lawmakers passed legislation on Wednesday to make Juneteenth an official state holiday — the measure now goes to Gov. Kay Ivey for her signature and will have state offices close on June 19.  WSFA 12
