COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The YMCA of Greater Montgomery will open a new Esports Lounge this fall at its Midtown facility on Carter Hill Road. The space will offer competitive gaming, host high school teams and birthday parties, and provide digital workshops—helping youth build leadership and tech skills.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • This summer, the Equal Justice Initiative will celebrate Juneteenth in Montgomery when Grammy Award winning artists perform at the Montgomery Performing Arts Center on June 18—featuring gospel music by Yolanda Adams and Donald Lawrence and Company. The celebration continues on June 19 when Legacy Sites waive admission fees and free musical performances take place at the Peace and Justice Memorial Center—showcasing acts by Cécile McLorin Salvant, Terence Blanchard, and Jason Max Ferdinand’s choir.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Auburn University at Montgomery graduated its largest class ever with over 700 students earning their degrees after four years of study—opening doors for new career opportunities.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Montgomery opened its new Fire Station 10 on South Court Street at Fairview Avenue yesterday using a $19 million investment to enhance emergency services for City Council Districts 4 and 7. The station—built on the former Sears site—is the largest in the city and features advanced firefighting equipment as well as a Safe Haven Baby Box for infant surrenders.  WAKA 8
