- ➤ Montgomery County Parks and Recreation Department, Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System, American Legion Post 1918, Alabama Herb Society and Montgomery County Extension Service will host a fishing day for veterans, active-duty military, retirees and their families at Elton N. Dean, Sr. Park Pond on May 17 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. — Registration forms are accepted through today at the county office and online. Montgomery Chamber

- ➤ Montgomery police arrested 34-year-old Desheldrick Mack on May 14 for first degree robbery after he held a clerk at gunpoint at the Roader Runner gas station on the 4600 block of Virginia Loop Road in February, taking $351 & he is now held at Montgomery County Detention Facility. WSFA 12

- ➤ Valiant Cross Academy celebrated its fourth graduating class Tuesday (May 13) at the Davis Theatre in Montgomery as family and loved ones gathered to honor the graduates. WSFA 12

- ➤ Alabamians can now text 911 in emergencies if they cannot speak, with texting working just like sending a regular message (this service is available statewide to help residents in a crisis). WSFA 12
- ➤ Gov Kay Ivey signed a new law called the Speedy Trial Act that lets the chief justice appoint a sitting or retired judge to try violent cases faster, and Alabama Attorney General Steve Marshall requested a visiting judge for a case tied to the 2019 kidnapping and killing of college student Aniah Blanchard + the law aims to cut delays in handling violent crime cases. - ➤ Montgomery Regional Airport accepted Executive Director Wade Davis’s resignation and will begin the search for his replacement immediately — airport officials said no further comment is available. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Alabama Office of Information Technology is investigating a cybersecurity event that was first detected Friday night and led state agencies to reset passwords on Tuesday — officials confirmed there was no major service disruption and no sign of personal data theft — as incident response teams work with third-party firms.
