ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • In 2024, over 130 motorcyclists and bicyclists died on Alabama roads as state troopers urged drivers to leave at least two car lengths of space — more in wet weather — to help reduce fatal crashes.  WSFA 12

  • The Montgomery Symphony Orchestra brings back its Jubilee Pops concert this weekend in downtown Montgomery. Music fans get a chance to enjoy live pops music at a local favorite event.  WSFA 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In Montgomery, drivers face rising gas prices as AAA Alabama reports an average of $4.06 per gallon — some motorists now pay over $100 for a fill-up. Experts say seasonal travel demand and global tensions are driving prices higher, though rates may drop later as refineries increase output.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rodney Smith Jr. mowed the iconic Capitol lawn on Monday after Gov. Kay Ivey invited him back during her state address. The nonprofit founder (leader of We Are Raising Men Lawn Service) aims to collect signatures from 49 more governors with his American flag lawn mower.  WSFA 12

  • On Monday, May 18, Montgomery Humane Society featured Pets of the Week with Venus— a 2-year-old longhair cat with diva flair— and Elliot, a 9-month-old Chow Chow mix puppy who loves kids. They are available for adoption at the society's facility or via their website.  WAKA 8

  • Troy catcher Jimmy Janicki was named Sun Belt Player of the Year after leading the league in home runs and RBIs. The Trojans will begin the conference tournament today at DABOS Park and face South Alabama in a first-round game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.  AL.com
