CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On May 19th, a federal jury convicted four individuals for a cocaine trafficking conspiracy that moved drugs from Mexico to Alabama (one was a former state trooper who offered his patrol vehicle) and sentencing will be scheduled later (officials stressed that no one is above the law). - ➤ A Montgomery man, 25-year-old Jaquez Myrick, was sentenced on Tuesday to 24 months in federal prison for a federal firearm charge linked to the 2024 mass shooting at Tuskegee University—he had been arrested on November 10 after leaving the scene with a handgun conversion device. WSFA 12
- ➤ A federal jury convicted three Alabama men for smuggling cocaine from Mexico into Alabama as part of a drug trafficking ring, and evidence showed an Alabama state trooper reportedly used his uniform to help move the drugs, with a sentencing hearing scheduled soon. WSFA 12

- ➤ Alabama Lt. Gov. Will Ainsworth announced Wednesday morning that he would not run for governor in 2026 after discussions with his supporters (family and friends) led him to focus on his children and transition to the private sector. - ➤ Louisiana meat retailer Bourgeois Smokehouse recalled about 100 pounds of its smoked andouille sausage on Tuesday after routine testing detected Listeria monocytogenes; the product, made on May 12 and sold at Rouses Market locations in Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi since May 13, should be thrown away or returned—no illnesses have been reported.
