COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Members of the Montgomery Bicycle Club joined a nationwide Ride of Silence last night to remember cyclists who have been injured or killed on the road. The club president said that motorists must give bicyclists space—bicycles should be treated like cars to keep riders safe. WAKA 8
- ➤ The Salvation Army of Montgomery has moved its headquarters to a permanent facility on Carter Hill Road — the new office is in the building that once housed the Latter Day Saints Church. WSFA 12
- ➤ Montgomery Habitat for Humanity gave brand new homes to the Mayo and Foxhall-Scott families as part of its Blitz Build Initiative on Millard Fuller Drive in New Hope Village. The nonprofit will add three more homes (and a park) at the end of the street to complete its plan of building seven new homes since 2024. WAKA 8

- ➤ An investigation began after a deadly officer-involved shooting yesterday in Montgomery when a special agent shot and killed the suspect, Raymond Tellis Jr., who is nineteen, after he resisted arrest by pulling a firearm during a traffic stop on Upper Wetumpka Road—police had responded earlier to an armed robbery call near Herron Street at about 9:20 a.m. WSFA 12
- ➤ Sextortion scams targeted young children by tricking them into sending explicit images on platforms like Instagram—authorities say over 10,000 cases were reported last year while many more likely go unreported. WAKA 8
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Tuskegee University President Mark Brown testified at a Senate HELP Committee hearing on Wednesday, May 21, where he explained that, as the first alumnus to lead the school, proposed federal funding cuts — including reduced Pell Grants and Graduate PLUS loans — may harm HBCU students.
