COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Charles Lee—founder of That's My Child organization—is partnering with WSFA to host the Hotdogs & Heroes fundraiser event on June 3rd to support the local community. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Montgomery Humane Society featured Pets of the Week with Shang, an 8-year-old Siamese cat who naps and birdwatches from high ledges, and Kona, a 1-year-old Terrier mix who is shy but friendly. Both pets are available for adoption—visit the Humane Society to learn more about fostering or adopting them. WAKA 8
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Over Memorial Day weekend, ALEA reported 316 traffic crashes with three fatalities in Pike, Morgan, and Bibb counties and no boating deaths—a 50% reduction from last year as increased patrols and checkpoints helped improve safety. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Twinkle Cavanaugh stepped down from her post at the Alabama Public Service Commission today & will join the federal government in a new role & her move marks a shift from state leadership to federal service. WSFA 12
- ➤ Sen. Tuberville announced Tuesday morning at a barbecue restaurant in Auburn—he felt a calling to help the state and its farmers—that he is running for governor in 2026. He said he plans to bring manufacturing to Alabama, stop illegal immigration, and improve education if he is elected. WSFA 12
- ➤ The Alabama Board of Pardons and Paroles has submitted new scoring guidelines for public review amid legislative pressure after low parole grant rates and failures to follow state law. The guidelines change scoring for infractions and add a new offense severity category, and the Joint Prison Oversight Committee meets today at the State House—pressing for reform. Alabama Daily News
