EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Nicole Cosby and her daughter Kaiya King from Montgomery walked the stage together at Alabama State University, marking their joint graduation—Cosby will begin a master’s degree in social work at the University of Michigan while Kaiya plans to study business further. WSFA 12
- ➤ Alabama college ISTC—offering nearly 20 career technical programs—gives incarcerated individuals the training they need to reenter society and transform their lives. WSFA 12
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Sen. Katie Britt supports the 'Big Beautiful Bill' — which includes tax breaks for child care and adoption — and she has long promoted similar reforms. WSFA 12
- ➤ The City of Montgomery unveiled a new Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station #10 on Fairview Avenue—its first installation—to help parents in crisis and protect newborns. The box alerts first responders immediately when a baby is placed inside, offering a safe, anonymous option in moments of uncertainty. WAKA 8
- ➤ Lawmakers in Montgomery raised concerns over new parole guidelines that use disputed scoring data—critics said the plan, which may reduce inmates' chances for parole, has omitted key criteria and is overdue for review. The board will accept public comments until July 4 before deciding whether to amend or adopt the guidelines. Alabama Daily News

- ➤ May is Stroke Awareness Month in Montgomery and local health experts remind residents that stroke is one of the top five causes of death. They stress that every minute without treatment can cost two million brain cells and urge people to learn the BEFAST signs (balance, eyes, face drooping, arm weakness, speech difficulty, time) and call 911 immediately if symptoms occur.
