COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Montgomery Habitat for Humanity hosted an energy-saving workshop with Alabama Power — teaching homeowners practical ways to reduce energy costs before the summer heat arrives.  WSFA 12
  • Prattville Rotary Club will host its annual River Region Rodeo to raise funds for local high school scholarships and nonprofit grants (the event supports community education).  WSFA 12

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rural King opens its seventh Alabama store in Prattville (742 E. Main St.), featuring mobile and self-checkout options. Grand opening festivities with in-store specials and a (chance to win $500 gift cards) will run Friday through Sunday.  AL.com
  • Alabama Power launches TempCheck—an online tool that compares your home’s thermostat setting with outdoor temperatures so you can see how energy use increases during hot weather. The tool is available on the company’s website to help customers manage rising summer energy demands.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Better Than Average Tutoring will host an academic summer camp for rising first through fourth graders on Fairlane Drive from Monday, June 1 through Wednesday, June 24 to help prevent the summer slide. Kindergarten and fifth graders may join based on assessments.  WAKA 8
  • The Elmore County Juvenile Court is hosting the Get in the Game resource fair on June 8 to help parents access support and information for a strong start to school for young students in the community.  WSFA 12
  • Montgomery Public Schools and ASU will host a job fair for security officer positions on Wednesday, June 10 at ASU's Dunn-Oliver Acadome. Organizers will assist candidates with applications as part of a $2 million initiative to enhance school safety.  WAKA 8
  • Montgomery Public Schools now offers a new Cyber Intelligence Academy that gives students a chance to learn hands-on about technology & cybersecurity. The program begins right away and opens pathways to future tech and security careers.  WSFA 12

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles Re-Entry Program is matching formerly incarcerated individuals with job opportunities while reviewing their interests, work history, and living situations (and conducting drug screenings and mental health evaluations) to ensure safe placements; positions are available to reduce repeat offenses.  WSFA 12
  • Marbury Water System has placed 3,000 customers in multiple counties under an emergency water conservation notice due to maintenance work. Residents are advised to follow water-saving guidelines until further updates are provided.  WSFA 12
