  • After a fire on Wednesday forced a temporary closure, Chris' Famous Hotdogs reopened today and is serving customers with its full menu—restoring fast food options in the neighborhood.  WSFA 12

CRIME NEWS

  • Mollie Gardner, a Montgomery mother, continues to seek justice five years after her son Keshon was gunned down in Regency Park on June 28 — she says police have not updated her in four years and calls for a renewed investigation.  WAKA 8
  • Auburn police arrested five Montgomery teens on charges including retail theft after reports from two businesses on May 28 led officers to pursue a vehicle near North Donahue Drive that later ended by I-85 — the suspects include 19-year-old Brooklyn Denson, 19-year-old Char’Myia Mitchell, 18-year-old Tyrese Smith, and two juveniles who were charged with theft and related offenses.  WAKA 8

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State lawmakers in Montgomery finalized policies that boost public safety by improving data sharing and using electronic monitoring for high-risk youth—measures that support law enforcement efforts and help reduce crime. The Alabama Bureau of Pardons and Paroles commended these actions, noting they give officers improved tools to keep communities safe.  Alabama Daily News
  • The City of Montgomery celebrated installing Alabama’s 17th Safe Haven Baby Box at Fire Station 10 — located at 1920 S. Court Street — which gives mothers a safe, anonymous option to surrender newborns.  1819 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Epidemiologists with ADPH said that warm weather and recent rain have created ideal conditions for mosquitoes to breed, so local residents should drain standing water and clean water-holding containers. They recommended using insect repellent with DEET to avoid bites and reduce the risk of mosquito-borne illness.  WSFA 12
