COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rising prices for nearly every item have increased food needs, prompting more community members to seek help at the Heart of Alabama Food Bank today. Food bank staff say ongoing cost pressures are driving the surge in assistance requests.  WSFA 12
  • The City of Montgomery is set to launch its Midnight Summer Jam Series this summer with a tournament-style basketball program for local youth, announced by Christian Brooks during a WSFA interview.  WSFA 12

CULTURE NEWS

  • Montgomery Sings will travel to New York on June 11 to perform at Carnegie Hall, offering the group a historic chance to showcase its talent.  WSFA 12

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Montgomery dropped to $3.94 a gallon at the start of June but remain above last year's $2.74, according to AAA. Experts note oil at under $94 per barrel and fixed state+federal taxes, signaling that long-term prices depend on global trends.  WSFA 12

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On Monday, Montgomery Zoo launched Zoofari Summer Camp 2026 for children aged five and six to explore exhibits up close + camp spaces remain open for ages five and six, nine and 10, and 11 and 12 while spots for seven and eight are sold out.  WSFA 12
  • The Montgomery Regional Chamber hosted about 40 Alabama Boys State delegates on May 28 for a Business Leadership Panel where local leaders in business, healthcare, education, and government shared insights on starting businesses and community leadership, sponsored by the American Legion.  Montgomery Chamber

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The World Meteorological Organization names hurricanes with a six-year rotating list and retires names if storms cause catastrophic damage (including Opal, which passed over Montgomery in 1995). The practice began in the 1950s to help track multiple storms.  WAKA 8
